The Student Summer Works program strives to:

• improve students’ ability to pay for continued education;
• provide students with work experience to develop practical work skills;
• link future graduates to potential long-term employers in Saskatchewan; and
• create employment opportunities that strengthen organizational capacity and support succession planning. 

Student applicants musts be:

• a Saskatchewan resident;
• legally entitled to work in Canada;
• at least 15 years of age (15-year-olds are required to obtain a Certificate of Completion from the Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course); and
• enrolled as a student at a secondary or post-secondary school or institution and returning to full-time studies after the period of employment.

Employer applicants must be:

• legally entitled to operate in Saskatchewan;
• able to offer employment for at least 4 weeks in length;
• able to provide employee coverage through the Workers' Compensation Board or through a private liability insurance policy if exempt from Workers' Compensation; and
• compliant with all applicable federal and provincial labour and human rights legislation and standards.

Employers in the following sectors are eligible to apply for the SSW program:

1. Sport and Recreation Sector – Community-based organizations, including Health Regions, RMs, Aboriginal organizations, School Divisions, and Post-Secondary Training Institutes.
2. Cultural Sector – Community-based organizations providing employment opportunities in heritage, multiculturalism, cultural industries, and the arts.
3. Environmental Sector - Employers providing environment-related job opportunities.

Note:
For-profit employers are eligible for funding through the Environmental Sector component, providing their work placement is environment-related. For-profit employers are not eligible through other SSW components, but may wish to contact the federal program, Canada Summer Jobs at: 1.800.935.5555.
